Wanna Learn a New Hobby? Crochet Perhaps...

The other day I blogged about getting out and meeting people with common interests or finding new things to learn.  This new crochet show kind of goes along with that.  No, you won’t be actually get out and meeting anyone new yet...but you will be learning a new craft/hobby.

I will be doing a live show teaching crochet every Saturday at 3PM EST.  For more information and to get the links to the show area please read my post on my personal blog:  Hookin’ for a Cause- My New Live Show

Stand Up, and Walk Out the Door

When was the last time that you did something fun?  Something that you completely enjoyed that had nothing to do with abuse or violence or remembering the trauma that you have been through?  An important part of healing from trauma is to not live in your trauma day after day.  You will never forget what has been done to you, but you can decide to not live in it everyday.

One good way is to get back into the hobbies or interests that you have had or to learn new hobbies.  Talking about hobbies and interests online is one way to do to this; to slowly get back into it.  Do a Google search for groups online that discuss your interest.  If you do crafts then search for your particular craft with the words ‘group’ or ‘discussion’ included in your search.Image representing Meetup as depicted in Crunc...

Another awesome way to get back into  your hobby is to find a local in-person meeting that talks about to participates in what you are interested in.  A great resource for finding local in-person meetings or groups is to use a website called Meetup.  You can make a profile there and then search for local groups in your area by putting in your zip code or city and state.                                             Image via CrunchBase

You can also search the groups by search terms or you can view all the groups in your area and pick one that is about something you are interested in but have never pursued.  This will give you a chance to meet new people and have fun without having to re-live your trauma to do so.

Be selfish for a change, get out and do something that YOU find fun and entertaining!
